This campaign was carried on by all the Sunday schools and Congregational Churches across the entire nation of America. The women and children worked together raising the money.
This was done by selling ten cent shares... and they actually gave a "Certificate of Shares".
Yes! They gave a "Certificate of Shares". In nickels and dimes and quarters... they raised more than $12,000, which covered the cost of this new sailing vessel.
The "Morningstar" was finally completed and sailed from Boston on December 2, 1856... bound for Honolulu! Since that time, as disaster or long service made it necessary... new "Morningstar" ships have followed to this day.
